Our friends, Karen and Hervie, told us about this neighborhood Italian American restaurant located at 3199 Paces Ferry Place in Buckhead(behind Whole Foods) on West Paces Ferry Rd. Their emphasis is on seafood and the server told us they do lots of menu items well but that the seafood items were outstanding.

We perused the extensive wine menu and chose a Primotivo that was moderately priced at $34.00 a bottle. It was very good, especially after it had a chance to breathe. The name of it was Enzo, I didn’t see it on the website so I think they may change their wine list often.

For an appetizer, we ordered fried goat cheese with honey. You cannot go wrong with goat cheese! The bread that is brought to the table is so delicious! It’s warm and soft, some wheat and some white, served with olive oil. I ordered a mushroom ragu with 3 different kinds of mushrooms, portabellos, shitake and button. It was wonderful! Keoni ordered halibut with grilled tomatoes, asparagus and tempura battered shrimp on top, served over polenta. Everything was so so good! We will definitely be back,

For our second “Dinner Club” outing, Tammy chose La Tavola, located in Virginia Highlands. I must say it was an excellent choice! We had seven in attendance this time but we did sadly miss Tri. He was skiing with his brother in Vermont!

We started out with an antipasti of mixed olives, parmesean cheese, marinated vegetables and roasted garlic served with Italian bread. We ordered a bottle of Edmeades Zinfadel (this later turned into 3 bottles). Most in the group ordered Tagliolini with a mushhroom ragu with truffle oil and pecorino ramano. It was delicious! I talked Tammy into sharing with me. We shared a striped bass with castelluccio lentils and artichoke crema with speck( a type of proscuitto). We also shared a mixed greens salad. Everything was so good! We received excellent service from Willy and Alli, the bartender was also very helpful in pointing out her favorite dishes on the menu.

Willy brought over a “sweet” surprise at the end of the meal. An assortment of about 5 desserts, including tira misu, lemon cheesecake and a chocolate flourless cake. All were so delicious and decadent! What a great night out with friends!

I had a delicious salad for my appetizer, roasted red and golden beets with arugula and goat cheese and tossed with an orange vinagrette dressing. I loved it!

I ordered penne with proscuitto and peas in a vodka cream sauce and Keoni had the special of the evening, three kinds of tortellini pasta. The entrees come with a salad or soup and since I was having the beet salad, we both ordered Zuppa di Spozulizo (Italian Wedding soup). This consists of tiny meatballs and escarole in a rich chicken stock with some kind of small pasta. Delicious!

Also, they have an excellent wine list and on Wednesday they have 1/2 price on most bottles and 25% off some. Why are all the places I know about doing the half price wine deal on the same night? They need to spread it out!

I got there about 5:30 pm because I had to go to bed early because I had a very early pickup the next day. I sat in the bar and my server, Corey was very good. She told me that bottles of wine and champagne were half price. (Monday nights) But since I was by myself I just had a glass. (You can recork it and take it with you, though). I had a glass of Santa Pietra Merlot and it was delicious! My dinner choice was difficult because I’m trying not to eat much cheese and I’m in an Italian restaurant! I decided on Portabello Ravioli which is oyster, shitake and crimin mushrooms with a mushroom puree’. It was also delicious, I savored every bite!

This Italian restaurant has been recommended to me so many times. Lots of people have said this is their favorite for Italian and I can see why.

We were so lucky to get a table right away (on a Friday night). We sat outside to enjoy the awesome, breezy weather. They were busy but our server came right away. They have antipasti and salads, lots of pizzas and pasta. I chose the risotto special with shrimp, garlic, tomatoes and white wine. The pizzas looked really good but risotto is something that I never make because it’t too time consuming. Keoni had lasagna and his was good also but mine was awesome! So creamy and garlicky!! We also shared a caprese salad (our favorite), I had a quartino (about a glass and a half) of wine and Keoni had 2 rum and cokes and our bill was $72.50 without tip.

I would definitely like to make this a regular place! Keep it in mind if you have an event at The Faulous Fox because it’s right down the street.
