We went to this place right after Top Flr to have another glass of wine. It’s located in downtown Atlanta on West Peachtree Place. It was a quiet Monday night so we had a chance to talk with the bartender/manager and server, Douglas and Joelle. They were so nice! They opened a couple of different wines for us to try. I was interested in the menu, French and North African cuisine. They have small plates, salads and entrees. I noticed on their website that they have specials on Mondays and Tuesdays. Monday is a choice of 3 different pastas and a glass of wine for $15.00 and Tuesday is steak and frites and a glass of wine for $15.00. Looks like we have another place to go!

Well, for the new year, I’m officially stepping out of my box. I do love to try different foods but I’ve not been adventurous when it comes to meat. My friend, Tri told me about this place, Abattoir on Howell Mill Rd. and excitedly told me that they have all kinds of “organs”. Abattoir is french for “slaughterhouse”. Another friend, Tammy, was there as well and since the three of us love to talk about food and restaurants we decided to start a supper club! I told Tri that Abattoir would be our first one and we should try to get others that are really “into” food to come along.

Tammy and I arrived first and immediately liked the atmosphere. We ordered a delicious bottle of Mettler petite syrah (2005) It was value priced at $27.00 a bottle (most glasses start at $10.00). Once Tri arrived he informed us that he’d recently been there and the food was awesome! The idea is to serve locally raised, high quality meats. We started with a plate of “charcuterie” french for a selection of cured and smoked meats, mostly pork. I’ve never even eaten a scallop and I tried a smoked scallop! All of this came with a crusty loaf of french bread.

Tammy and I shared a marinated beet and arugula salad with housemade ricotta. Delicious! We also shared a slow cooked rabbit with escarole and turnips. It was really good but I never would have believed I would order rabbit in a restaurant! I believe that Tri had smoked duck.

The food and wine was very good, the service was excellent and the experience of trying something new with good friends was priceless!

This little cafe in Marietta is so good! The translation is “Sweets of France”. I can’t believe it’s been open since 2000 and I’m just finding out about it.

They are known for their delicious breads and pastries which are baked on the premises. They were quite busy so I ordered at the counter and sat outside. I had tomato basil soup and a half of chicken salad sandwich ( at someone’s suggestion) and both were excellent! Because I was using a credit card, I had to charge at least $10.00 so this forced me to buy a pastry! I ordered a raspberry cream cheese tort and it was also good.

They have lots of things on the menu that I would like to try. One of them is hashbrowns “a la Francaise” which has green onions and parmesean cheese. Do you think this is the French version of scattered, covered and smothered?

Anyway, this is located in Marietta on Glover Street and is only open for breakfast and lunch.
