FIG in Charleston

December 8th, 2008 · No Comments

I heard about this restaurant from a friend and saw it the last time I had a layover in Charleston.  Unfortunately, I had already eaten so I was really looking forward to trying it this time.  FIG ( food is good) is a locally owned reataurant with a “seasonally inspired menu”.   My friend, Tammy was on the trip with me and was easily persuaded to try it!

We sat at the bar and were the first customers (the kitchen doesn’t open until 5:30 pm).  The bartender, Michael, was awesome!  He helped us with the menu and described his favorites enthusiastically!   We ordered wine ( I had Finca Antiqua Temprenillo and Tammy had a Sangiovese) both were reasonably priced $7 and $8.  For dinner we decided on 2 appetizers and the veggie plate, all to share.  We had the warm salad with shrimp and radicchio and agnolotti (small stuffed pasta) with pureed parsnips.  The veggie plate had a mixture of seasonal vegetables such as beets, some kind of squash, mashed yukon potatoes, turnips, collard greens and roasted cauliflour.  Every morsel was full of flavor!  We did not get dessert but I’m sure they are wonderful.

If you want to get away from the “tourist trap” restaurants in Charleston please stop by this award winning establishment!  It’s located on the corner of Meeting Street and Haskell.
